What to do in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar
Viña del Mar and Valparaíso are just a few minutes apart, but offer very different experiences. Viña is more orderly, with urban beaches, casinos and green areas; Valparaíso is chaotic in the best sense, with hills, street art and a port history you can feel on every corner.
If you have just one day
Prioritize Valparaíso in the morning: explore Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción, ride one of the historic funiculars and walk toward Paseo Atkinson to see the bay. In the afternoon, cross over to Viña del Mar to stroll through the Botanical Garden or along the seafront promenade.
If you have two or three days
· Dedicate a full morning to Valparaíso’s museums, such as Palacio Baburizza or Pablo Neruda’s house museum.
· Set aside an afternoon for the Casablanca Valley, just over an hour away, with its wineries and tastings.
· In Viña del Mar, besides the beach, it is worth visiting Castillo Wulff and the Reñaca area.
Practical recommendation
Getting around between both cities and to the Casablanca Valley is much more comfortable with a private transfer that coordinates the timing for you, instead of relying on public transport with fixed schedules.
